MRCE- its Birth

MR College of Education functions under the aegis of MANSAS a registered education society. This progressive and philanthropic organization was founded by Late Raja Saheb DrP.V.G.Raju in 1958 to exemplify the brightest virtues of holistic education. The institution has been ably and efficiently running under the Chairmanship of Sri P.Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Minister for Aviation, Govt. of India, of the MANSAS Trust. Presently Dr. D.R.K.Raju is working as Correspondent of the MANSAS Educational Institutions. Dr. P.VG.Raju, D.Litt, Ex-Pro Chancellor of Andhra University. Visakhapatnam and Rajah Saheb of Vizianagaram took personal interest and initiative to start Maharajah’s College of Education in 1950. The Institution took its birth in the form of a Department of Education in Maharajah’s College in the year 1950-51. Under the stewardship of eminent persons like Dr.A.LNarayana, the former Vice-Chancellor it got nurtured as Department of Education. Eventually, it was upgraded and recognized as a separate entity and this was due to the effort of Dr.P.V.G. Raju during his tenure as Honourable Minster for Education, named as Maharajah’s Training College from the year 1959-60. Sri Bhogaraju Surya Rao, an eminent educationist was the first Principal after the College got separated as entity and existence as Maharajah’s Training College. Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. S.C. Sarma former Dean, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, this college was named as Maharajah’s College of Education from the academic year 1969-70.

MRCE - its Growth

The Andhra University has granted permanent affiliation to the college with effect from 1977 - 78 to both B.Ed., and M.Ed., Courses. The N.C.T.E. Southern Regional Office, Bangalore has issued the first recognition with effect from 1989-99 with an intake of 240 B.Ed., Students and also renewed the recognition for the subsequent years .However, the NCTE, SRC, Bangalore revised the intake of B.Ed., students to 125 from the academic year 2000-01 onwards and continued the same intake up to the academic year 2015. This institute is also having permanent affiliation from the Andhra University and also having recognition from SRC to M.Ed., Course. The intake of M.Ed., course was enhanced from15 to 25. . As per the G.O.Ms.No.115,dated02.11.2016 of the Govt. of A.P, M.R.College of Education as un-aided college from the academic year 2017-2018, after withdrawing grant-in-aid. Our College was identified as a Study Center for distance mode B.Ed students by the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad, and also by the Andhra University to conduct B.Ed., Classes. Similarly, in the year 1987-88, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has recognized this college as Foster Institution to the DIETS situate in North Circar Districts (i.e., Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam). For the last 66 years the college has been obtaining spectacular results in the University Examinations and thousands of our students are serving the Nation in different disciplines occupying significant positions as Officials and Teachers.

Maharajah's Colleges are one of the oldest Colleges in India.It was established in 1879 by Sri Poosapati Vijayarama Gajapathi, Maharajah of Vizianagram.
