Significant Stages or Events in the Development of MRCE


Dr. P.VG.Raju, D.Litt, Ex-Pro Chancellor of Andhra University. Visakhapatnam and Rajah Saheb of Vizianagaram took personal interest and initiative to start Maharajah’s College of Education in 1950.

Named-Maharajah’s Training College

Eventually, it was upgraded and recognized as a separate entity and this was due to the effort of Dr.P.V.G. Raju during his tenure as Honourable Minster for Education, named as Maharajah’s Training College from the year 1959-60.

Named-Maharajah’s College of Education

Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. S.C. Sarma former Dean, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, this college was named as Maharajah’s College of Education from the academic year 1969-70. During his tenure, M.Ed., course was introduced from 1971-72.

Permanently affiliated to Andhra University

The Andhra University has granted permanent affiliation to the college with effect from 1977-78 to both B.Ed.,and M.Ed.,Courses. The N.C.T.E.Southern Regional Office,Bangalore has issued the first recognition with effect from 1989-99 with an intake of 240 B.Ed.

Previously, the Andhra University, Visakhpatnam identified this College as a nodal College of Education in Vizianagaram District to discuss academic issues, convene guest lectures, frame modalities for curriculum transactions etc.

Our College was identified as a Study Center for distance mode B.Ed students by the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad, and also by the Andhra University to conduct B.Ed., Classes.

Maharajah's Colleges are one of the oldest Colleges in India.It was established in 1879 by Sri Poosapati Vijayarama Gajapathi, Maharajah of Vizianagram.
